Galicia ahoy

Postby AndyM » Sat Sep 04, 2010 8:23 am

Off on hols today, ten days in Galicia, seeing how many gaita-players I can spot. Keep this place tidy until I get back!

Have a relaxing time, Andy. Keep the aspidistra flying, pith helmets and pink gins, PG Wodehouse in excelsis, drown Julie B for me...

Birds weren't a priority, Des, but we did see some major and compelling cormorant action in the estuary between Vigo and Cangas.

Afraid not, our holidays don't take in much music. Some gaita types evocatively busking near assorted monuments & cathedrals. The better restaurants favour a rather mushy backwash of Enya-esque 'international Celtic'. And if the never-impressive Spanish radio stations played on buses/coaches are any index, the two songs most worth playing on regular and maddening repeat are 'Human' by The Killers and 'Fight For This Love' by Cheryl Cole. Spiffy.................

But there is a record shop in Vigo (the city we were staying in) called Honky Tonk - run by Galician Charlie G fans?? (Couldn't go in and ask, it was on an outskirts road we only passed once.)
