I suppose I ought to chip in here with a vote for The Soft Boys. Possibly not the most important at the time, but - wow - the legacy they created. Underwater Moonlight - what a classic. Or are we talking singles only? In which case 'Kingdom of Love'. No, make that 'Only The Stones Remain'. No, hang on, make that 'I Wanna Destroy You'. In a Morrisey/Marr way, I reckon Robyn Hitchcock loses a lot when he doesn't work with Kimberly Rew.[/quote]

Hello, I am not sure if Taiyo, or Adam or anyone else can help me with a query about The Soft Boys. I don't think I know any of their music, and I was researching something and came across the name of Rob Lamb.

I saw The Soft Boys in 1978 supporting The Damned. They were very good. They did a spirited cover of John Lennon's "Cold Turkey" which was quite daring at the time (the 60s weren't supposed to have existed, ha ha, cretinous punks).

I saw the Soft Boys quite a lot around 76-78 in Cambridge. They were the only local band that the punks had any time for. Robyn was similarly respectful of the whole punk thing, although I sensed it was approval qualified by a wry smile.

For some strange reason, Robyn Hitchcock and Vic Godard have become mixed up on my musical map. I know one had Subway Sect and the other one The Soft Boys and The Egyptians. One was a postman and the other one was not etc. But I haven't always been quite sure which.

I've come across their work only sporadically, but now things are a little clearer.
Maybe I should investigate further.
