As the Guardian article mentions, there's a small exhibition of some of Sidibe's work on now at the Lichfield Studios, Ladbroke Grove:

Malick Sidibé
Exhibition: 11 March - 16 April, 2010
Private View: 03 March , 06:00 pm - 08:00 pm

Unseen work by Mali’s most celebrated living photographer Malick Sidibé will be shown at the Lichfield Studios in London. Sidibé became the first photographer to be awarded the Lion d'Or for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale in 2007.

I can't believe you haven't got a copy of the 2Cd reissue of Pirate's Choice...

and I bet you've got the Golden Afrique release that used this :

I like this Malick photo (note to self : must look up the story behind it):

There was a very interesting documentary on Malick Sidibe on the BBC a couple of years ago - sure it was watched by many, and discussed here at SOTW

A snapshot from memory

Postby NormanD » Wed Mar 10, 2010 5:22 pm

There is one photo I remember seeing many years ago, in one of the papers. It was of a young African couple (m & f) in France, dancing the jive or ceroc. It's got very much a late-50s / early-60s feel to it, judging from his slim tie, crepe-soled shoes and general très cool. Sorry, I can't remember the woman's dress style. I wonder if it's the same photographer? I'd love to see that photo again. I know it's not much to go on, but people here have identified obscure songs from less information than this.

This looks like a must-see, along with the one at the BM.

PS No, it's not this photo:
