I went to add him, but he was already there! I guess we need an alphabetical index. Now, where's a librarian when we need one?

Ha, ha. I was one of those in an earlier life (1967-72). Perhaps something like an Excel spreadsheet which can sort the data any which way. There might be a problem in exporting the format already held if not comma or tab delimited. I'm game for a laugh if nobody else is up for the challenge....

I added him yesterday and looking back at my last post, see that I didn't say I had done so outright. It does take a bit of time when I've come across someone's name and I wonder if they're on the list to scroll through the forum to find the month and then scroll through that month's data to see if they are on there which means knowing the day they were born which means looking that information up and writing it down somewhere before you start scrolling through...Or, as Charlie did, go back and forth through the thread to see if people's contributions have been entered on the respective month's list.

Though we've tried to be consistent with using birth names first, 'stage' names second, in some cases would they need to be entered twice? Just curious, should someone take on the task of an alphabetical list. If you are serious, Alan, I would be happy to help but I don't know if that's possible as I don't know how to create that sort of a list or how it is done.

The master list for 22nd- 30th June appears to have vanished, presumably due to last December's problems. I've compiled a list including previous nominations and YouTube Recommendations, which I'll post later in the month unless the original listing can be recovered. (I was attempting to post the list today, but it suddenly disappeared from the screen when I was halfway through for some reason...). I am however rather puzzled a nomination for "Franklin Delano Roosevelt" on 26th June, 1934...

I hadn't realized today is a new month! Thanks very much, John. I'll add those in today (probably a little later). Didn't this happen to another month as well - half of it missing? I've had the page disappear when I've finally finished. It's not fun.

As far as FDR, I was confused too. The person I thought of, and most everyone else, was born in the late 1800's plus wasn't a musician, I wouldn't have thought. I reread uiwangmike's referring post (page 3) and saw he mentioned bluegrass. Looking around in bluegrass a bit, I think Mike might be referring to Franklin Delano Roosevelt Wakefield.

You're right of course - I plead ignorance of Mr. Wakefield. I'll add him to the list.

Taking that as a challenge, I searched (but unsuccessfully) for a clip of the real FDR doing Happy Days Are Here Again. But is there any other case of a president being so closely associated with a song? Frank Wakefield was, and I hope still is, a marvellous mandolin player. I have happy memories of him playing Rondo alla Turca at a bluegrass festival in upstate NY in 1981.

It's good to see no less than two names from my home county in your list, John. There's more to Middlesex than Andrew Strauss and Reg Dwight.

Another departure:
30: 1917 - Lena Horne (Brooklyn, New York)(died May 9, 2010)

I have updated the master list to include your additions from the 1st to the 21st. It didn't take an hour, though I had thought it would. The only item prior to this post not on the master list is Mike's note re: Lena Horne.

Another departure:
30: 1917 - Lena Horne (Brooklyn, New York)[died May 9, 2010]

Thank you both.

Re: Birthdays (June)

Did it, though I did have to hold my breath. I'd forgotten to make a copy of my 'edit' before I hit submit and I know from experience, that can be disastrous.

note: I did find another June 30 birthday name but I hesitate...on the one hand he is described as a musician, on the other I'd have a hard time adding him to the list...yet, it's not up to me to censure etc etc: Yngwie Malmsteen. Any opinions out there?

Yngwie Malmsteen is an interesting phenomenon: the misplaced athlete as musical performer. He even LOOKS like an athlete of some kind, after all, even though he is putting on a little weight these days. Imagine if he had devoted all that time and energy to the high jump or sprinting or swimming or somesuch.

30: 1948 - Murray McLauchlan (Paisley, Renfrewshire)
He emigrated to Canada with his family when he was five years old. I’m not too familiar with his work, but he’s respected by some of my Canadian friends. I found a couple of recently departed folkies who had June 30 birthdays, Mark Spoelstra and Dave van Ronk, who, like Lena Horne, was born in Brooklyn.

(I just found Stanley Clarke too, only to find he's already there in your list.)
