Inez Foxx (9th September birthday)

Postby john poole » Wed Sep 09, 2009 3:20 pm

Inez Foxx - born 9th September, 1942 (Greensboro, N. Carolina)

She didn't just record Mockingbird - this was a minor UK hit (#40) in 1964 - a first for UK Sue. Her brother Charlie unfairly didn't get his full name on the label. Later in the year they supported the Stones on a UK tour - Allegedly, Mick stole some of his on-stage moves from Charlie.

Charlie passed on in 1998. It does not appear that Inez has been heard from since 1974.

Inez Foxx 75 today, she last performed with her brother Charlie in 1995 when receiving an award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation. I hope they received their royalties from the cover versions of 'Mockingbird'

Two produced by Luther Dixon who became her husband -

'No Stranger to Love' (1966) lip-synced on local Detroit TV "A Swingin' Time" in 1966 - appears to be the only surviving clip of Inez & Charlie

'I Stand Accused' (1967) - cover of Jerry Butler song

and Inez & Dusty - offline audio snippet from the end of a 1966 (or perhaps 1965) episode of Ready Steady Go!

I saw Inez and Charlie at the Scene in '64, they did a great set. Their act, and they, was very cool. A lot cooler than Jagger.
