Best record with whistling on it

Who recommends what, for the perfect record collection, including best guitar solos, African records and singers with gravelly voices

Yes he does.
will vine wrote:Dr. John again..............Big Chief....doesn't it? There's certainly a Professor Longhair version with whistling.

Yes, the Dr John version does feature whistling. Can't put my hands on a Prof Longhair version at the moment, but he certainly whistles on 'Mardi Gras In New Orleans'.

A couple more:

Taj Mahal - "Ain't Gwine Whistle Dixie Anymo'"
NRBQ - "Whistle While You Work" (from "Stay Awake...", Hal Wilner's Disney project)

Peter Gabriel's first big solo hit - Games Without Frontiers (is that the correct title?) which may even feature synthesised whistling.

&

Guns N' Roses - Patience (lovely whistling over acoustic guitars).

Hey, I was a teenager in the 80s, I'm allowed to remember these songs!

Aon Aon

My favourite to whistle along to...

Aon Aon by Tabu Ley Rochereau

to be found on The Voice Of Lightness (disc2: 1972-79) or Golden Afrique Vol. 2

Being careful not to just list any and every whistling record, I'm not sure whether this should go in here or in "Guilty Pleasures" but today I heard (Looking Back) Over My Shoulder by Mike and the Mechanics...a perfectly decent record, with a very nice whistled chorus.

A version of Every Kinda People by, I think, Paul Johnson, a record I have tried to track down (can anybody help?) also qualifies here.

I won't mention I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman (oops, sorry, I just did...).

But I will mention Shinehead's version of Billy Jean. Not that it's the best, but...

"I'll never go back to Georgia" by (I think, from memory) Joe Bataan. At any rate, it's a 60s Latin soul New York classic, by somebody like that. Has a great, simple 4-note whistled riff.

The first minute or so of "Ku Kisantu kikwenda ko" by Franco & OK Jazz, from "Francophonic" has some lovely whistling.

Doesn't the Beatles' You and Me end with a bit of whistling? Lovely song, anyway.

That's Two Of Us (from Let It Be). A Day in The Life also has whistling (for canines only).

When it came on as part of a random selection today, I couldn't believe that none of us had yet mentioned "Dock Of The Bay" on this thread.

Edit: It has now been pointed out to me that this thread began with the death of the man responsible for the whistling on "Dock Of The Bay". Apologies for my lack of diligence.

Whoops! Rob you needed to have read Charlie's opening posting a little more carefully.
