Mavis Staples's List of Music You Should Hear

Postby Neil Foxlee » Mon Nov 26, 2007 12:27 am

Came across this while seeing what classic gospel was still available to meet Charlie's request for a best gospel albums list (ironically a guy in Israel has a list: http://www.amazon.com/The-ultimate-Gosp ... _5_rlrsrs0 ).

Mavis's list is short, non-gospel and mainly recent stuff:

Hmm, in my humble opinion, ther best thing about Mavis' list is that it IS short. I mean to say, 'Chavez Ravine'?, 'Modern Times'? It reads more like a list of her chums, rather than great albums.

But the gospel list is quite interesting. Nothing from the Dixie Hummingbirds, or from dorothy love Coates, which is a shame. Particularly as there's three from the Soul stirrers. But a few beauties, and a few for me to investigate further.

How about listing your top gospel CDs, Neil? I'd be interested in seeing that. Or have you done it already in another thread?

I'm working on it - along with a dozen other things - following a request by Charlie (see my initial post). I'm checking what's still available first.
