posters on this forum

Postby c hristian » Tue Jun 19, 2007 8:54 pm

Is most everyone posting on here in England? Are there other countries represented?

What is the demographic breakdown for those posters that are actually, actively posted?

if no stats, than a ball park guess from those "in the know", would be fine.

Thanks, C

I'd say that most (75%?) active posters are based in the bottom right-hand corner of England. 100% of me is based in Scotland. At least a couple jab their keyboards from the US of A. And the rest seem to be from another planet, far far away. Roughly.

lies, damned lies, statistics, and SOTW posters

Dunno. Have a look at the 'Member List' tab at the top of the page. It's a database which you can analyse in a few ways (total posts, joined date, height in high heels, etc...).

As I said:

a planet far far away

By the way, c hristian, why the gap in your name? Is it significant, or do you just have pudgy fingers?

on the first message board that I was on, in 1999, "Christian" was already taken. So I went with C hristian, and have been using it ever since. If someone sees "C hristian" they know its me, and it's easier for me to remember fewer things.

I can't remember ever forgetting anything...

Postby Gordon Neill » Tue Jun 19, 2007 11:05 pm

Fair enough, I can relate to that. Life seems to be full of things that I can never remember. Must be an age thing, I suppose. By the way, c hristian, why the gap in your name? Is it significant?

If you stick around on this forum, Christian, you will become accustomed to confusing diversions from at least one if not both of our contributors called Gordon. In this case, the one from far north is pretending he has Alzheimer's, hence the repetition of the question.

It's a bit like learning Latin. You get to recognise the c odes after a while.

So, I'm guessing that the dominant demographic is mostly white, mostly baby boomer (do you all use that term for a generation, is that applicable to the UK?), mostly middle class? Am I more or less on target?

I hope you're not thinking of some marketing campaign! I suspect that you're broadly correct in your assumptions (although some of us sensitive types would object to be labelled 'middle class', and others can go quite red in the face sometimes). The only other distinguishing 'demographic' that I can think of is a high bloke-count. There are some women, but it's mostly males. It was either music or trainspotting.

yes, that's usually a given on message boards like this.

No, no marketing campaign. I just like to be able to know something about the audience to which I'm writing.

"middle class" in the sense of -- > poor, working class, middle class and owning class

as well as

lower class, lower middle, middle, upper middle, upper.

But that may just be the American way of misusing and abusing the English language. My apologies.
