I have heard a couple of songs by this band, like Don't Walk Away Renee. Today I heard Pretty Ballerina & thought I noticed how much it sounds so much like Moody Blues.
They were a quiet, unassuming band, that just came and went. "Walk Away Renee" is such a good song, I don't think I've heard a bad version (though I bet that somebody will tell me that Bob Dylan has crapped it up on some live recording). I don't know if I'd call it "perfect" - it just has all the right notes in the right places, and sounds good every time even after forty years..... Maybe the Moody Blues did listen to them in their earlier years, certainly the way they used a string section. There was a band here called Honeybus, who had a couple of singles with a similar feel and sound around that time - "Do I Figure In Your Life?" was one I remember. I wouldn't mind trying to get hold of a Left Banke collection, if there is one. Nice call, Dayna!
I heard Don't Walk Away Renee on the radio yesterday, & I have Pretty Ballerina recorded. Pretty Ballerina is now a COT, & I listened to it over & over before going to bed. The song got stuck in my head, & I saw House, so I had dreams all night about it (is this weird?) not about a ballerina. Like maybe I have a subconscious crush on Hugh Laurie?
