Whoever guessed I wouldn't like this, guessed right. Putting the compiler's name in the title works well for Gilles Peterson (G P in Brazil, volumes 1 & 2, etc), but I would wince.

And I'm not sure how radio DJs feel about playing a record that pushes the another radio DJ's name so prominently.

The compiler's name has grown steadily bigger on my world compilations since the first one, And the World's All Yours in 1996, where it was in tiny print on the back, to its current position just under the album title on the front.

Looking for a follow-up title at that time, I suggested The World in Your Hands, but it was felt that a religious connotation disqualified it.

Maybe the iPod generation would appreciate The World in Your Ears.

I think I meant to suggest Musical Atlas - with or without Charlie's name.

Charlie Gillett's Global Jukebox.

Well I didn't! I would know that you wouldn't go for such a self grandising title, Charlie.

And surely using the DJ's name only works if people have heard of that DJ. I'm not sure many Americans would have heard of Charlie - as I'm sure Charlie would agree.

I'm not really good enough to name your CD for you, but the more I've been listening to the shows,& hearing a lot of things I've never heard in my life. It feels like I've been getting a small world tour. And I got the picture of the Disney ride in my head; It's a Small World. That's the name of the song that they play on this.
To me it's been about seeing treasures in the world. Maybe someone can make something from that.

Charlie Gillett's Global Jukebox.

It was me. I make no apologies, something's going to trigger somebody to come up with the lightbulb idea, so I'm just tossing ideas in there.

Why stick to English? OK, I know that Americans are famously reluctant to embrace other cultures (which could be a problem with this particular project), but I read somewhere that there are more Spanish speakers in the US than there are English speakers. And a phrase such as "Musica del Mundo" is probably sufficiently transparent that it's meaning carries across for the many English speakers who have a nodding acquaintance with Spanish. And you never know, it could open up a hitherto untapped market among Spanish speakers.

This was another one I suggested in the past, along with Musica de Mondo, and Sonido de Mondo, but was told these phrases would not go down well in Italy/Spain, where it was thought their down market connotations would put off the discriminating audience we hoped to attract.

With respect Charlie, did they (a) suggest any alternatives, or (b) offer any qualification of their opinion? Times change: maybe it's worth asking the question again?

Not that I have any great emotional investment in this, just that "would not go down well" sounds suspiciously like "I don't like it".

It seems a shame that a project that is so culturally inclusive in so many respects should be promoted exclusively in English.

to continue everyone's efforts:

a world in a year

one world one year

world music - one year's journey

another world's music

journey into another world

same world, different journey

world released

world trip

world spin on a bus

world passport

safe passage

and to quote what Charlie said he liked about the picture of the bus on the thread about the cover art:

'turn of the wheel' 2006 (except - now that I look at this out of context,
it appears all too familiar, like a film title)

I'm sorry Charlie, I have no suggestions, but I didn't want this thread to be without me :) All I know is that it will be a brilliant album and I can't wait.

Looking back throught the thread, "Going Global" which was in the press release, still seems like a winner, and fits the picture, but here's a few more daft suggestions:

WorldWide Best (or Worldwide Bus!)

Bus-Hop (hop on Charlie's bus and hear the World!)

(bus) Windows on the World

Global Horizon

Next stop - the World!

Get on the Bus! - The World Bus!
