J.D. Crowe (27th August birthday)

Born James Dee Crowe on 27th August, 1937 (Lexington, Kentucky) - he's 80 today. During the 1950’s the banjo player with Jimmy Martin, the man sometimes called the “King of Bluegrass”, in the Sunny Mountain Boys; he then became the leader of J.D. Crowe and the New South with members at various times including Keith Whitley, Ricky Skaggs, and Jerry Douglas. J.D. retired from performing at the end of 2012.
