Stone Roses - discuss

Postby Chris P » Tue Aug 15, 2017 8:38 am

I'll put in my fiver's worth on this thread, in thought form, later, assuming anyone else cares to comment. Meanwhile, I do and have liked their music, and their lyrics are not to be sniffed at too much either, there are some good ones

That thread didn't do them justice, in fact they were barely mentioned. It started on a bad foot with Garth getting confused and in a paddy about (british?) music (yet again). This is a better thread on which to discuss their music, lyrics, and indeed anything else about them, for those who care to

Didn't like their singer. Also, their music seem to be much more irrelevant than music much older than theirs

I remember hearing their first album when it was released - liked 'Waterfall' and maybe one or two other songs, but probably never listened very closely to the lyrics. Sampled a few tracks on YT this morning but they don't appear to have lasted all that well to me. No doubt an important group for some a lot younger than I was/am.

The drummer and the bass player deserved to be in a better band.

Harsh and unfair, but showing respect for the rhythm section nonetheless!

I remember seeing them on the Late Show on BBC2 in their very early days (can't remember what they played). I thought they sounded quite interesting and that it bode well for the future. Afraid I didn't hear anything else of theirs that grabbed me after then.
