Yippee!!

Thing is now - how can we avoid this in future years?

I really do appreciate all of Marc's generosity and interest, and in getting the site back up again. The absence of SOTW did give me a bit of grief, but I remained optimistic nevertheless.

OK, back to business. Let's post away. We don't want to lose it, so let's build it again, and restore it to former glories.

I clicked on SotW on my bookmark bar to double check that it was down for what I thought might be the last time tho I had some hopes...and discover that the site is back up! What a wonderful surprise.

Many thanks to Marc and Mondomix for what must be a labor of love.

Dare I say it does appear to be an annual occurrence in December this dropping off the face of the earth. If it's an annual subscription that need attending to just yell and I'll gladly contribute.

Just rediscovered we're back after commiserating with Aly on deciding it was probably gone for good. A million thanks to those who did the hard graft.

I was very glad to see the board up again. I haven't been a regular visitor or contributor lately, being just that much too busy with life etc. But while it was down I somehow felt less connected.

I've never been a regular poster around here, but I do stop by to check out recommendations fairly often. I'd be very happy to contribute to a Patreon or something to ensure this place is still around next time I want to pop in. I really can't overstate how valuable a resource this forum has been to me over the years.

Thank you Mr/Ms Navigator.

Please do contribute when you can. I'm sure you've got as much to say as those of us who think we've got lots to say.

Is your name a ref to a guitar?

Lol no the user name is from Frank Herbert's Dune novel. I'll try to contribute more often, but I'm a terrible lurker. I haven't been very good at keeping up with music the last couple of years. Before that, I was working at a bar/restaurant/venue that had live music 6 nights a week. They had a fairly strict "no covers can be played" rule, but the right musician could get a pass. Had so many amazing musicians come thru that place. My brother (an incredible & successful mountain dulcimer player) was the first person to ever play there when it was just a small cafe. So many of the best shows I've ever seen happened there with small, intimate crowds. Listening nights were a regular occurrence as well as impromptu jam sessions on the patio. Unfortunately, Tallahassee was not big enough of a town to sustain a place with so many musicians passing thru. The overhead to run the place became too much as turnout dwindled. Music that is new to me has become much more difficult to come by. Youtube, and games of Pandora station training are my most regular sources of a fix since the place closed. Very rarely get to see live music these days.

Not yet. Been on my list for quite some time now. My wife just read the books for the first time recently and loved them. She's never managed to stay awake thru the David Lynch film version, but I may have more success getting her to watch a doc about something that could have been. I've heard another film adaptation is in the works now. Can't say I'm too surprised. Frank Herbert's son, Brian Herbert, has been pumping out new Dune novels with a co-author the last decade or so. I've read some of them, but after 6 it really felt like there were no more pennies left to squeeze out of the original source material.

I loved 'Jodorowsky's Dune', so funny, including his account of seeing the David Lynch film after his own version had failed to get made. I also should have mentioned the director's 'Endless Poetry' in the SotW Oscars thread - the second in his autobiographical series (although probably not for everybody)
