RIP The Shed

Mark Coles has just put out the final edition, after 5 years.

One of the reasons he gives for calling it a day is a dearth of good world music issues. I enjoyed Mark's amiable presentation style, but I have to admit I've been listening less and less in the last couple of years, especially after I stopped getting the reminder emails.

So, last night Deb tells me that she's been talking about good music sites/podcasts, given the decline of decent radio progs. "There's on called The Shed" (thank you Jamie) "we should listen to".

Oy.

I really enjoyed his programme when I came across it, which was always by chance, and latterly that didn't seem to be happening, so I did occasionally 'listen again'. It is a shame he's stopped.

I still live in hope that someone might come and check out what's been going on in Rotherhithe for 5 years now, and then want to talk about it on the radio or interview any of the musicians on the programme...

Actually Tanita Tikaram's piece on the Robert Elms show was definitely a big step in the right direction, although I've yet to have anyone tell me they came to the gig because they heard Tanita's gushing report on the radio.

I hope you're reading this DJ Ritu / A World In London.

DJ Ritu has in fact done one interview with a band that were v soon after on stage at Sands: El Naán from Palencia, Spain (a highlight of the year) but unfortunately gigs and radio shows clash ....so she herself has not been yet.
