I'm now likely to be away for the day, to attend an unexpected funeral. Too late for a postal vote now, I might try to organise a proxy vote for someone to write on my paper 'NOTA', which will no doubt be counted as a spoiled paper rather than a rejection of the whole process.

A completely unnecessary referendum, which only the Eurosceptic Tory 'bastards' wanted. I'll be voting Remain to avoid a rightwing coup led by the odious Boris Johnson. There are plenty of changes which need to be made to the EU, but that can only happen if we stay in.

It's now become a matter of not voting for something that I favour, but voting against something that's become despicable. As B. Bragg has said (approx): not everyone who votes Out is a racist; but every racist will be voting to leave.

Have we hit rock bottom yet with the UKIPs latest anti-immigrant poster campaign? Will yesterday's political murder give more than a day's pause and 'reflection' before it gets even worse?

A lot of central and eastern Europe has moved to the right or far-right. Is the UK any different? It's getting worrying, for sure.

I've been aware of the pollsters figures as they've come out, hearing of surges towards Brexit and recoveries by the In camp, and the quivering see-sawing of "too close to call". Through it all I've been watching the shrewdest of all - the bookmakers - who've consistently quoted Remain as odds - on favourite. Today some are offering odds against such an outcome.

You can get 3/1 Remain and, extraordinarily, 8 /1 - 10/1 Leave (what do they know?) **

I voted In (not with any sense of excitement) but am inclined to have a disloyal £20 on Leave. Then at least the whole day might not have been wasted.

** edit.......I think these are enhanced odds dependent upon you setting up an account....but even so.

It looks as though Boris, Gove, Farage and co. read the political runes better than the bookies, the pollsters and David Cameron. You should only call for a referendum if you can be sure of obtaining the right answer. The electorate may not answer the question on the ballot sheet but may voice their general disenchantment or conduct a Tory leadership contest. Another depressing result after the General Election. All I need now is Iceland to beat England at footie on Monday night and my misery will be complete. (Little) England seems to be in favour of withdrawing from any European engagement so the football team may just follow this trend.

Coulda...shoulda...woulda...........Didn't.

The bookies called it wrong but still made a packet off the backs of people who voted IN.

What a rotten outcome for us all. And to think two in every three people I greet on the streets today will have voted to leave. Can't fathom it.
