I used to worship Yes when I were a young lad. :) I saw them live several times and thought they were wonderful. Then one fateful day in 1976, I heard the Ramones 1st album and, somehow, Yes never sounded the same. I didn't listen to them again for years and years and years, and only relatively recently thought I'd have a nostalgic experience with them and listen to my old faves: "The Yes Album", "Fragile" and "Close To The Edge" - and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Utterly preposterous, but certainly very musical and not without vigour... Turns out Errol Linton's Blues Vibe is full of secret Yes fans - or at least, myself, Phil the drummer and Errol himself. Phil and I can reduce each other to hysterical laughter very quickly with our patented Jon Anderson impersonations...

As for Jimmy Durante - F*ck, yeah! "The Man Who Found The Lost Chord" is an utter classic and thank you Dayna for reminding us.

I know some people will probably laugh at me, but I have to admit I liked the way some Disco sounded & still do. I liked the Bee Gees. Actually, I even had an album of theirs before they did Disco. I don't know what I did with it . They were mentioned on here once.

Dayna, I found myself replying to a message which no longer existed! It felt like being caught in public muttering loudly to myself, so I hastily deleted it. And if you delete your last message then this one will self-destruct in 10 seconds.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to come up with some sensible suggestions for the 'Canon Cathedral'. Honestly, the 5th Dimension! What exactly is their claim to greatness? Some ditty about an astrology sign? I feel you're not taking this Canon business seriously enough. Perhaps you should hum the Laughing Gnome to remind yourself of true artistic genius...

I am serious. I am not as knowledgable as you I guess, I just know which ones sound good and like to know what someone elses thoughts are.
There are other songs I've heard by them. I don't know what theyr'e called, but they were good.

I thought Howard wanted to find groups to go in his canon. I wanted to help!
It's kind of neat to debate these songs.
Around where I live people debate the Browns & Steelers.
I love my Cleveland Browns, even if they haven't won much, for awhile. But this is much more interesting for a change.

Handel; I love Water Music. I always have since I heard it as a little kid at Disney World, even if I didn't know what it was at the time.
I like Bolero. Don't know who it's by.
Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3; I have that on my computer, in an electronic version, & also on a CD

I have this Brandenburg Concerto like i said earlier. I wish I knew how to send it to you so you could hear what it sounds like. This computer version is in my Medi Player & is very pretty & sounds a lot like the music I heard in Florida when I heard Water Music in the Water Pagent.
I am trying my best to think of what would fit here in this list.

Just to be of service: "Bolero" is by Maurice Ravel.
The electronic Brandenburg 3 is probably Wendy (formerly Walter) Carlos - but I wouldn't swear to it in a court of law. He/She had a thing about "doing things" to perfectly unsuspecting bits of J.S.Bach. She/ He did a mighty weird thing to Beethoven's "Ode To Joy" - as featured in "A Clockwork Orange". But I wouldn't watch that if I were you.
If you open the Classical can of worms we'll be here forever (actually I think we have been...!) In fact I think it's just thee'n'me up here these days.

I even saw Howard here earlier, & he didn't have anything to say. Maybe he gave up on this. But I thought it was interesting. Did my ideas seem good? At least they were kind of based on what they were looking for. I think.

No idea who "they" are or what they were "looking for"! Don't know who Mannheim Steamroller or Chip Davis are, I'm afraid. I fear we may be two persons divided by the same language...
