During 2010, the slot features recycled programmes, most first broadcast on the World Service, but some featuring live sessions first broadcast in World on 3 on BBC Radio 3

Charlie Gillett Radio Shows

Postby urko_unsworth » Thu Oct 08, 2015 7:50 pm

Does anyone have copies of any of Charlie Gillett's old radio programmes, particularly City Beats/ A Foreign Affair, C.G's World of Music, World on 3.

Please email me at popsicleape@gmail.com if you can help?

Cheers
Roy

Hello Roy, and welcome.

Have a mooch through this site: http://bootsalesounds.blogspot.co.uk/se ... results=50

The guy who ran the blog (which has now stopped) posted quite a few of Charlie's radio shows, sometimes back to the old Honky Tonk Radio London days of the 1970s, which can be downloaded.

I know this was originally asked some time ago, but wondering if anybody still around has compiled a more complete collection of his radio recordings. I've spent the night going back and playing a good bit of Charlie's world music playlists tonight via youtube, but I'm missing his thoughts given voice.

I know that the BBC Radio London / GLR shows (all those Ping Pongs) were recorded each week and then sent to the British Library Sound Archive. Maybe someone knows how to access this as a casual listener/civilian rather than a writer/student/researcher, whatever you have to do to get a pass.

Charlie's radio shows are available to listen to at the British Library in London. They are free to listen to, however, you have to arrange an appointment to listen to them at the library. They are not available to take away or listen to at any other site. This is a great shame as it is very difficult for most people to travel down to London. It is a pity they have not been made more easily available.
