Daguerrobase - The open catalogue for daguerrotypes

Postby Kari Salonen » Tue Jun 23, 2015 8:52 pm

This was made available quite recently: an open gallery and database cataloguing tool for daguerrotype photographs. Several European museums and collections are involved

http://www.daguerreobase.org

It is not working entirely faultlessly as yet, not on my browser anyway, but what is there is genuinely mind expanding.

Interesting Kari, thanks.
Useless info dept, Queen guitarist Brian May is a big collector.

No wonder. I was browsing through the portraits and thinking that these were the people who thought the first steam trains were too fast for the human physique. And there was an old Parisian lady (very old) who had witnessed the French revolution first hand.

Darwin must be there somewhere too, and also his fierce contemporary opponents. And also some of those who saw photography as just another modern folly that would soon pass.
