Today I was busking on Portobello Road. It was a beautiful morning and I was just enjoying the music and not worrying too much about making money. I had a decent sound on the little busking amp, the guitar was in tune, my mojo was working and all was right with the world.
After awhile, I noticed a little old lady with very piercing eyes hovering nearby, listening intently. I smiled and carried on. She listened some more and then when I paused she approached and said how much she enjoyed the music. She said she organises life drawing classes in the neighbourhood and would I care to be a model. I said, yes, I'd be fine with that. We talked about time and money and all that. She took my card. I asked her name. "Bobbie", she said. I didn't really give it another thought until just now. Then it hit me. I did a quick Wikipedia search on images for Bobbie Korner. Yep. It was Alexis Korner's widow. That's nice...
Who knows, she may have lost my card on the way home. I may never see her again, but the lady who fixed breakfast for Big Bill Broonzy (and many others) stood on the street today listening to me play the blues. I like that.
