In case you missed Gnarls Barkley on Top of the Pops, Gordon, the performance is archived on YouTube or more conveniently on the Matsuli blog that our correspondent Bedward has introduced us to:

http://matsuli.blogspot.com/ really is a wonderful archive

I'm afraid I did miss Top Of The Pops (as I have done for the last 20 years or so) and I did miss your posting about Matsuli. Until now. Belated thanks to Charlie and Bedward for bringing my attention to this site. Quite apart from Gnarls Barkley, it has lots of interesting stuff. Now added to my 'Favourites' list.

Saturday & Sunday I stayed at my Mom's house while she went away, watching her cat Simba & the house. I get to watch Cable TV then & I kept switching back & forth between the music video channels. There's not just MTV anymore. That channel really isn't what iy used to be at all.
On one of them they played the Gnarls Barkley song "Crazy" quite a bit. I like that video a lot, with the animated ink blots. It's interesting & doesn't seem like it takes away from the song like some videos do. I keep worrying if they keep playing the song too much, it might get boring after awhile, but it is something I keep wanting to hear.

I have been hearing Corinne Bailly Rae more & more. That is a woman singer I can admire.

DangerMouse

Postby Dayna » Tue Aug 22, 2006 3:18 am

What can you tell me about Danger mouse? I have been aware of the different groups he's worked with & that they all have music that sounds good. I found a short article about him in our local paper, Sunday.

He is very talented. What can you tell me about him? What exactly does he do to make songs sound good?

I'm sure, if I'm not mistaken and sometimes I am, but then again sometimes I'm not, correct me if I'm wrong but is n't dangermouse the 'voice of' David Jason?

That man has some talent I can tell you, David Jason I mean, or do you think he is just acting?

If only we could put it in a bottle and shake it on our tracks when we need a bit of genius.

Danger Mouse and Timbaland are for me the only two American music makers of the past fifteen years with a vision of their own.

Everybody else makes copies and nobody else can get it right.

Think you're right about that. I think creativity has kind of been lost these past few years. I have not found much interesting about music here myself, or other aspects of art. Everyone is too concerned with just making easy money.
It could be why I find something I love & get so excited. I've been starved!

Ritchie; Have no idea who that is!

I remember being really grabbed by tracks I heard from "The Grey Album", a studio cut-up fusion done by Danger Mouse, consisting of The Beatles' "White Album" and Jay-Z's "The Black Album" - one of those things that sounds as though it shouldn't work, but it really did work (at least on the couple of tracks I heard).

One of those cases that prove you don't have to to be a traditional musician/instrumentalist/singer to be creative with music.

I'm not so sure about that one Charlie. It's very near to His Bobness's recent quote.

I can't comment on either "Danger Mouse and Timbaland" as I have n't heard enough so I can't expand on the term "with a vision of their own".

My son plays a load of 'american rap' music but I can never remember who is who.

But ... I like Wyclef Jeans 'vision' also Daniel Lanois or perhaps it could just be that I like their styles and influences as musicians and producers.
