Re: Bülent Ersoy, I did indeed notice her in the video posted and TBH let out a Ho-Hoooo! as in.. Now, there!.. is a woman that is not to be trifled with. She looks like a diva, for sure.
Edit: I regret.

Another track by Razzastarr (Greek Rap Group) who I'm heavily into thanx to Norman D!

Well in my opinion she's at her best in this one - offff offff what a song .

Ebru is so great in this video, I too can't stop playing it and so needed the translation,(cobbled from 2 other translations)

It's a lie that I don't love you
Originally written and sung by Selami Şahin (as far as I can tell)

Lie Lie Lie
It's a lie that I don't love you
I said it in a moment of anger, a lie
It's lie that I don't love you
x2

If you are not here, everything is missing
If you are here, everything is ok
x2

Whatever I have, I want them to take it
I am ready to share, believe me, believe me
I can't share it only with you

Lie Lie Lie
It's a lie that I don't love you
I said it in a moment of anger, a lie
It's a lie that I don't love you

Lie Lie Lie
It's lie that I have forgotten you
A childish joy begins inside me
When I see you
x2

If you are not here, everything is missing
If you are here, everything is ok
x2

Whatever I have, I want them to take it
I am ready to share, believe me, believe me
I can't share it only with you

Lie Lie Lie
It's lie that I don't love you
I said it in a moment of anger, a lie
It's lie that I don't love you
a Lie!

Thanks Willy that's a good translation - as in many Turkish songs the words are simple but (with my not brill Turkish) I had only got the gist really.

The other guest behind her on the sofa is Orhan Gencebay - Orhan 'Baba' (father) - another great singer - I'll post something from him next.

Ebru is of Kurdish origin by the way - in that video there's something about her enthusiasm and facial expressions that make the rendition extra special - my taxi driver is in love with her ;-)

My thoughts exactly, It's obvious that Ebru cherishes every moment and I love watching her "purr" at the camera at about 10 seconds in. Having recently read her bio, it's no wonder she enjoys it. I also visited her spaceage-sittingroom website: http://www.ebrugundes.com.tr/
which gives previews of her new album, called "13,5" -tantalisingly good and varied in styles. I have a lot of catching up to do.

Gorgeous voice (father Kurdish, very famous 'Aşik' - mother German)

Think Phil will approve more than Ebru G ;-)

Three women leaning against a large Greek erection

Postby Gordon Neill » Tue Jul 10, 2012 11:29 am

Could this be another sub-genre?

Rena Koumioti, looking all glum and moody, singing "Dose Mou To Stoma Sou". Wonderful song. I've no idea what she's going on about, but I know that i agree with her.

Καίτη Χωματά, who possibly answers to the name of Katy Homata, looking all glum and moody, and singing "Στον ουρανό είν' ένα αστέρι" (me neither)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYapArT7QBk&feature=fvw

And finally, the rather fab Poly Panou, looking all glum and moody (what is it with these Greek birds? They all look as though they lost a shilling and found a tanner). Singing "Ti sou Kana Ke Pinis". Not sure what a 'pinis' is. Probably not.

Just to set your mind at rest, Gordon, "pinis" is the second person singular of the verb "pino"= to drink. Any resemblance to any other words with which one may be familiar is purely coincidental. Stop sniggering at the back. It works equally well in reverse with some innocent English words sounding very rude to Greek ears. You have to watch what you say when you're teaching a bunch of teenagers in Thessaloniki. If you called a pupil a "brick" jokingly it would give rise to some hilarity as the Greek word for brick ("touvlo") also means...I'd better stop there.

Ah yes, the music. Rena Koumioti. I have never heard of her but she is a rude singer. "Give me your mouth" and "do what you like with me". I am overwhelmed with indifference. Next...
Katy Homata. One of the new wave ("Νέο κύμα" in the vernacular) singers from the last century. "There's a star in the sky" (but not in this video). As above.
Poly Panou. "What did I do to you and you take to drink?" I think I would be driven to drink as well.
If I am not a fan of arabesk in Turkish music I don't have much time for new wave singers in Greek. The music always sounds Radio 2ish and lacks that vital ingredient: arhidia. Apart from that, Gordon, thanks for posting these clips.
