A cajun fantasy come true

Postby Marti Owen » Fri May 25, 2012 11:09 am

Warm barmy night. Crawdaddies for supper (nephrops norvegicus anyway) then a srtoll through my village to the backroom of the bar to dance two-step with my best gal.

Sometimes dreams do come true. Savoy Family Band were in town and about 100 or so of us village folks had a great night of waltz and two step. The reviews which follow the Savoy - from their Womad appearances and their choice as prt of the Songlines Top 5 does testify to the quality of musicianship last night.

What made the night extra special is that Menai Bridge is a bit anorak ( a statement about our national dress) about its cajun. If there had been a programme that the family had in mind - it was quickly overturned and became a request night for music which in some cases "they had forgotten they knew". It had a very spontaneous feel that was right for the setting. 5/5

Who knows what might happen when Kanda Bongo Man and Tony Allen turn up in town next week. Will the fued between the Afrobeat and Soukous families reignite?

Lucky you! Fabulous band - one of the highlights of last year's Womad!

You might try:http://www.cajunsdenbo.co.uk/

There was a zydeco band from Felinheli however there was an unfortunate occurrence with a washboard... the vocalist found the Guiro much safer and moved on to Cumbayas.
