Culture shock in reverse?

Postby kas » Sat Apr 14, 2012 11:52 am

Have you ever returned from a trip and got a culture shock - in your home country?

This must have happened to me previously, but I only identified it last week after coming back from Mumbai.
Somehow my own neighbourhood just looked and felt - bland. Empty. Cold. Too spacious. Sterile. Void of all life and colour...

Still does by the way, and genuinely, not in an "overwhelmed by a touristy exotism" kind of a way.

I'm not well travelled Kas but recognise all your adjectives as they relate to Britain. This country feels dead, or at least in a very deep slumber.

Yep, I know what you're saying Kari. Coming back from Israel in 1983 I felt it. In recent years though, coming home I've been amazed by the lush green beauty & the trees in the Uk. Surely land that farms so well compared to many parts of the world - but why aren't their more birds, animals and insects? (oh, I see it's partly the farming..)

You poor thing. That sounds like a letter from prison. I hope you can get out soon to almost anywhere.

I'm fine once I'm home Gary, once I've got past the crowds, the tube etc.
