That is fab. It put me in mind of Anita O'Day doing "You Turned The Tables On Me" which is one of my favourite jazz vocals but, oh lackaday! It's not on YouTube.

If you google the full lyrics (jazzers only ever seem to sing the first verse) Lorenz Hart's lyric has some interesting things going on - including reference to The Well Of Loneliness. It's from a 1943 musical called By Jupiter:

"In the land of the Amazons the women rule and do battle while the men stay at home, mind the children, and buy new hats. An army of Greek soldiers, led by Theseus and Hercules, arrives in search of the Sacred Girdle of Diana, currently in the hands of reigning Queen Hippolyta. Accompanying them is war correspondent Homer, author of a recent bestseller called The Iliad. The Greek warriors are captured by the Amazons, and romance blossoms between Theseus and Antiope, the warrior-leader of the Amazons"

Why was this never made into a film? I think it was the last Rodgers and Hart collaboration before Hart (4'11, Jewish, Alcoholic, Homosexual. - If he'd had a bad leg he would have had the set ) drank himself to death.

I rarely succumb to the lure of musicals. But Rodgers and Hart were the shiz. Although Rodgers later work with Hammerstein was OK, the lyrics lacked Hart's wit and enjoyably silly use of language (laughable/unphotographable etc.).

But of course the later pairing did inspire 2000ADs Ro-Jaws and Hammerstein about a cheeky proletarian garbage disposal robot (Ro-Jaws) and his strained relationship with excessively militaristic Sergeant Hammerstein. (I am NOT making this up. Google it if you don't believe me)
