I watched all but the last half hour of this the other day in dribs and drabs. Its three hour length is a bit off-putting but... I'm convinced. Hedges is inspired by Orwell, and that's good enough for me. I love the blithe way he mentions in passing his various arrests in prisons in the Middle East that most of us would really rather not even contemplate. His recent arrests at home in the US, for demonstrating outside Goldman Sachs amongst other things, must seem like a relative tea party. It's more than heart warming to see a middle aged academic putting his money where his mouth is like that.

I watch in dislocated amazement at the carnival of Republican candidates going on across the pond at the moment. How much more of this will the American public put up with? is the question I keep asking myself. The single demand, that Hedges re-states several times: Get corporate money out of politics - has got to get louder and louder until it has to be addressed. But the bad guys never go quietly...

Just to briefly note my approval and add that far from an 'academic' he's a journalist who's seen more hotspots than Andy Kershaw's had hot dinners. Brave, brilliant chap.
