A long lost record, and one I should be ashamed of trying to re locate. Anyone remember a silly little pop song......(Another little) Cookie in the Jar by Blue -(not the more recent boy band). I think this is seventies/eighties vintage. Can't find it online anywhere.

I remember Blue with Hugh Nicholson (ex-Marmalade); and have their first LP, but don't remember 'Cookie in a Jar' I have to admit. I'd never have expected to find two separate mentions of Blue in the same week on SoTW.

fried in butter, 'n not too greasy.....

Great imagery in the song first recorded in 1956 by the wonderfully named Hurricane Harry. Copied by Jimmy Roger three years later for Chess. In 1969 Python Records released a Chess bootleg compilation entitled Blues From The Windy City on which was supposedly the Jimmy Rogers version but it played Harry's original.

Oh, I seem to be needing to thank so many people tonight. Great information Alan, Thanks. What an amazing archive you are! And of course I'd love to hear those old versions. It really is a great song.
Be sure to check it out Jamie.

Erm...

Bacon Fat (a NO song)
Roast Fish and Corn Bread (Lee Perry)
Yes, We Have No Bananas (Louis Jordan)

Edit: Oh yes, and the sephardic song "Los Guisados de la Berendjena" (also known as "Siete Modos") about different ways to cook eggplant...

There was a Songs about Biscuits thread in 2009, but maybe your computer doesn't allow cookies, Jamie.

Johnny McEldoo by the Clancy Brothers is an excellent treatment of the sin of gluttony

Thanks everyone. My plate runith over. You've inspired me to cook up an early evening food related set. Later on, as the partty (hopefully) hots up, If they're concentrating on the lyrics, rather than dancing, something will have gone very wrong.
