Lou Reed/Metallica collaboration

Postby Hugh Weldon » Wed Nov 02, 2011 12:07 pm

I have been alerted to the fact that this is now available.

At first I thought it was a joke but apparently not. Anyone know more/heard anything?

Just found this, it seems more interesting than first appeared.

The pic of the wasted Lou in shades with his new buddies is worth a look.

Heard one track on the radio, not massively impressed. Lou sounded like he was doing them a favour, they sounded too polite.

However, this album has given me unexpected status in the eyes of my 17-year-old nephew-in-law (we need a word for that!). Uber-long-haired, perma-scowling and besotted with Metallica (next favourites: Motorhead and AC/DC), he'd never really heard of Lou Reed before, so I offered a potted history and recommended some of Lou's less arty outings. It seems that I am no longer just his gay uncle's boyfriend but ever, ever so slightly cool.

sad sad, a crashingly complete & squirmingly unmusical travesty:

or more succinctly in words of Youtube commenters "epic fail" and "oh Mann is des Kacke!" (using that last phrase literally, not in its positive jive sense I assume)

Oh dear. Is Lou doing this just to upset people? It wouldn't be the first time.

Here's the original version:

Funny isn't it? That's an unholy row as well. Why is one so much better than the other? (5000 words, on my desk by noon tomorrow.)

I'm not sure that the version with Metallica is any worse than the one on "Rock'n'Roll Animal", but this is the best version I think -

We'll agree to differ on that one, John - I enjoy Cale's insane bass playing on the original too much. But we can definitely agree about the "Rock'n'Roll Animal" version!
