please get better

Postby Delphine and Josephine » Mon Jun 05, 2006 6:24 pm

This is terrible news. We will miss you very much. You have been my reference radio program!

But do take care of you and I sincerely hope your feeling will come back and it will be great to see you in Womad, optimistic and hopefull.

Thank you again for a great program and very good music you introduced to us.

Charlie

Sorry to hear you are quitting and of the circumstances that led to this.

Regretably, I didn't always get the chance to listen to your show, but while doing a part-time degree over the last 2 years, which involved working over the weekends, found your fantastic choice of music helped me get through it all and was the source of some great entertainment.

I hope that BBC London continues the show. Any ideas from anyone on how we can make this happen?

Here's to Charlie congratulations on many years of championing the music we all love, and here's hoping you continue in whatever way you choose to share with the world some wonderous gems which we may not otherwise have enjoyed.

As a professional in the music industry, and someone who shares a love of music from the world we all inhabit it is with a deep and abiding sense of thanks I'm writing this and wish you all the very best in health and a prolonged enjoyment with all of us in music

Charlie's health

Postby tel » Tue Jun 06, 2006 1:13 am

Your most important prioirty is to get your health back Charlie. Of course we will miss your show and newsletters. You are such an important part of the music scene. Sometimes we have to reasses our prioirities and do things a different way.

Lots of aroha to you and your whanau

Get well soon...and come back later.

Postby iandewar » Tue Jun 06, 2006 9:39 am

Dear Charlie,

In your "The Last Bulletin" email you sounded depressed...but I hope that the treatment helps you to a full recovery soon and with it a happy and positive frame of mind.

I've shared many Saturday nights with you, have a hole in my wallet from the CD's I've bought and the gigs I've been to on your recommendation. Hardly a wasted penny amongst the lot. So come back soon or my bank manager will not understand what's going on.

How you come back is another issue. BBC London clearly didn't appreciate your genius and their overall listening figures are disappearing into a hole in the ground. So why not sit at home and give us a weekly or fortnightly podcast?

In the meantime I'm back to Radio Nova (thanks for that advice too).

Best wishes

Ian

Charlie

Postby muswellnel » Tue Jun 06, 2006 7:38 pm

To Charlie, the biggest, yet least bigheaded DJ of them all.
Quite apart from the fab music [yes! expensive, week after week, so many 'must have' tracks first heard thanks to you] it is your generosity of spirit, your quiet humour, and your gentle enthusiasms which have kept me glued on a Saturday night.
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou!!

It is HORRID for you being so ill, and taken so so suddenly, and I pray warmly that your poor feet will be dancing again soon. Please look after them.

I shall miss not only your shows, but your newsletters too; except they made me so cross when I had failed to catch a show and realised what I had missed.

Love and gratidude for so many happy hours in your company! I shall look forward, as usual to your Wolrd service slots,

yours ever,
E Granny Penelope

getting well

Postby chuck » Tue Jun 06, 2006 10:19 pm

Dear Charlie:
Listening to your show, CDs and building on your humane approach to music and people - some of the good things that helped me through a bout of getting well earlier this year.
Will look for you in spirit at some gigs over the summer - and hope to chat with you in a queue again at the London Open House event in September.
With thanks & take care -
Chuck

Charlie,
Your absence from future Saturdays in my life is monumental. Nothing on the USA radio stations can match your program for enjoyment, information and sincerity. All the best in the future. Heal quickly.

Re: Saturday Night on BBC London

Postby Howie Taylor » Wed Jun 07, 2006 9:12 am

Hi Charlie,

I began listening to the Saturday night shortly after meeting my wife and like that partnership, the last eight and bit years my commitment to your show has been constant, fruitful and very interesting. You have put me on to so much music over the years and I will miss not having you as a friendly voice on the radio come the summer. I hope you make a full recovery fully and that you are able to return to broadcasting soon.

My sincere best wishes.

Howie.
