"Fancy" by The Kinks. Early example of world fusion. I like the sound of your special guest very much. Good choice too, and a very sound bit of musicological analysis. You blokes are getting better and better at this, aren't you?

They are indeed, another great selection. And what a lovely surprise to hear Judith!

Great! This will be my lunchtime listening luxury. With extra-added sublime Californian!

It seems to have come round quite quickly - I haven't even written in to ask for a badge yet. To be honest, I thought you were kidding about them.

Thanks guys, and a thank you to Norman and Gary for inviting me to be on No Reason. You simply must get a badge, Julian. I really like mine. People look at it rather quizzically yet do not ask what it's about. Maybe they're afraid I'll just shrug and say, "no reason".

I hope other forum members get to sit with Norman or Gary and talk about their sublime moment. It was really fun (and sublime), once I got over the horrors of talking with a recorder going. I've never done anything like this before and Norman had it all together and made it go much easier than it could have.

And -thanks to my favorite music teacher for helping me to articulate what I was hearing.

Well, that went down very well indeed. Thanks Gary & Norman. And Judith - great choice. I presume they paid your travel expenses.

Thanks all for kind comments. Of course we paid for Judith's travel - she said how classy it was to get on the plane and turn left.
But having heard her 'sublime moment' it was worth all of Norman's pension fund to achieve it. She is also right to encourage others to volunteer their 'sublime moments' as that was the idea from the start - we get guests in. We have a short list so far but are very keen to have make it longer. Messrs Carthwright & Renton have agreed - we think? And Richard Myers has e.mailed us with 10 'moments' ! P.M. either Norman or myself if you're up for it - Norman is a budding Studs Terkel with his mP3 recorder and can come to you or meet you halfway? Or you're very welcome to visit No Reason Towers.

And there are still badges available.

Top man. I have no problem if you did choose the Beatles - I'm right there with you in how jaw droppingly, heart lifting, soul enriching & toe tapping, they were. We'll do it whenever suits you.
Thanks.

Yes, it is great to have No Reason around.
Informative and entertaining though all the comments are, I doubt Norman will ever top his introduction on episode 3 "1-2-3 GO" is unbeatable.
Never did like that Kinks track (gratuitous moment of dissent to provide a little balance here).

Very pleased you're enjoying it Alan, and especially Judith's choice.

At the risk of letting light in on the magic (!) although Norman hoped Judith might have a 'sublime moment' up her sleeve on her recent visit to these shores, we accepted that we might not in the time permitting, get it recorded. The first I knew of it, Norman had met up with her and sent me the mp3 via e.mail - this is the modern world -and I listened to it and was lost in Judith's quiet, personal, powerful, telling of the song and it's context. I've listened to it three or four times now and it just gets better.

As for the competition -please take part. You're right, it's no substitute for live radio and Nikki on the phones - funnily enough we waved at each other just yesterday - on my walk as a postman I crossed in front of her car.
