Garth Cartwright got tipsy
And danced like a gypsy
He was often quite mellow
Before Gogol Bordello

Not strictly a Clerihew, but what the hey.

Juldeh and Justin
Are far from disgustin'
Their music's not fiddly
It sounds like Bo Diddley

Femi Kuti
Can make you shake your booty
But his much missed late pater
Was oh so much greater

Celia Cruz
Enjoys drinking booze
She sups it in bars

Ryland Cooder
Could write nothing cruder
Than a singing red cat
And bulldozed flats

Made another few million
From silky drawers
And four by fours

Now he's through
'Cos he jumped the queue

And for that we wish him a happy birthday!

I can't decide on the best ending, so here's both alternatives:

People glowered
When they read stuff by Howard
But they just wanted to stare
When he plaited his hair

People glowered
When they read stuff by Howard
It all went to his head
So Marcia hit him instead

"Prof. D", asked Gillett
"Tell me, please, will it
Upset your smile
If I make a slight error with my pronunciation every once in a while?"

Won't be watching the snooker
He'll be doing something much more glitzy
Spinning tunes at the Ritzy

June has correctly pointed out that this is better:

If you rhyme June
With moon
Clowns
Frowns

I am an arse (God I hope nobody reads these ...!)

Dom's verse was quite proper
Yet he still came a cropper
Though his rhyme was inventive
June got anal retentive

or the condensed version -

Is quite a looker
People make passes
When they’ve forgotten their glasses

Donald Rumsfeld was sad
He felt like he’d been bad
Everyone started their groans
When he said ‘we know there are known knowns, known unknowns, but also unknown unknowns’

You rhyme junkies could have had a field day with my surname - distressing schooldays experiences informed me there's a word that begins with almost every letter of the alphabet you could use:

Ale, Bail, Cale (as in John), Dale... er.... E's a bit tricky, but then it's on to... Fail, Gale, Hail, Jail, Kale, etc etc.

And regardless of the fact I was not a particulary timid kid I, needless to say, also got lumbered with 'Howard the coward! Howard the coward!" Not that I want to encourage you.

I do love Tom Ze
Why's that? You say
And isn't it pronounced 'Zee'?
Don't ask me!
