Wedlock of the Gods is set in 18th century, rural Nigeria, a tragic drama about love and sacrifice. The play has its roots in traditional rituals of death and mourning. A young girl is given away in marriage against her will. She rebels in the face of age old customs and traditions...What would be the consequences of her desire? The play with its great tumultuous love has echoes of Troilus and Cressida, Helen and Paris of Troy and Romeo and Juliet.

Wedlock of the Gods is written by Zulu Sofola. She is one of Africa's most foremost female writers. Her work is largely unknown thus Virgo Foundation has embarked upon this production to bring her work to the greater public.

Wedlock of the Gods will be directed by Wale Ojo and features a vintage cast of African British actors such as Ben Onwukwe(The Bill,London's Burning), Golda John,Yetunde Oduwole, Maynard Eziashi(Mr Johnson, Ace ventura, The Contract), Olufunke Adeleke, Reginald Ofodile, Moji Sorunke Bamtefa, Chucky Venn (The Dark Knight, Borne Ultimatum), Melanie Liburd and Wale Ojo.(No. 1 Lady Detective Agency, The Philantropist).
