Quite brave I think to take on the history of heroin use among US jazz musicians, focusing on the 'Narcotic Farm' in Lexington, Kentucky - a place I'd never heard of before - surprisingly as those sent for treatment there included Sonny Rollins, Elvin Jones, Chet Baker, Lee Morgan, Sonny Stitt, Bennie Green, Jackie MacLean and Red Rodney. Lots of interesting points about music, addiction, race...and intelligent script and commentary by addiction researcher Sally Marlow.
