BBC4 documentary, repeated from 2009 when it might have been discussed here.

Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Dave Brubeck, Ornette Coleman.....

Pretty interesting social/cultural history mix, including possibly unique footage of Lou Reed enthusing animatedly about something!!!

Very enjoyable. Well worth watching. Miles is cool, Mingus is Mr Angry, Ornette is sadly misunderstood but Dave Brubeck is such a lovely, lovely guy...

Yes, Lou and Hal Willner are most endearing. I interviewed Willner once, when I was a journalist, and he was a great fount of anecdotes and enthusiasm. He said that getting the Sun Ra Arkestra to sing and perform "Pink Elephants On Parade" for his Disney album ("Stay Awake!") was the highlight of his career.
