Later Live with Wilko & Fatoumata

Postby Chris P » Wed Sep 28, 2011 1:55 pm

what a lovely short interview with Wilko (about 12 mins in), also playing earlier in prog, and Fatoumata Diawara's also on. I'm just navigating around with the slider - judging by some of the other acts you're gonna wanna too

Wilko needs a singer, though. What's Graham Parker up to ?

Wilko looks somewhat grizzled. I'm sure we all do / or will, inside or out. Is the other grizzled geezer on bass Norman Watt-Roy?

Graham Parker has sadly had to give up singing, following that (fortunately) unsuccessful strangulation attack that did for his vocal chords, and has returned to working in the filling station in Camberley.

It was Norman W-R, though time has not been kind. Didn't know that about Graham Parker - sad.

Norman, can't find anything about that attack on Parker after a few google searches, & it isn't mentioned on his wiki entry, which reads like this for his recent activities:

In July 2011, he played a private party for a Pittsburgh physician who has described himself as Parker's #1 fan.
In the spring of 2011 Parker reunited with all five original members of The Rumour to record a new album. The record, tentatively titled Three Chords Good, is due to be released in 2012 in conjunction with the Judd Apatow film This Is Forty, in which Parker will have a small role.

can't see mention of it on his official site which lists this for recentish activity:

2006 shows no sign of Parker slowing down with the haunting new song "2000 Funerals" released as a one-off single only in downloadable form on itunes and emusic.
Interesting "official bootlegs" are being added to the list of web site only releases on a regular basis. In 2007, Graham released the highly acclaimed Don't Tell Columbus." April 2010 will see the release of Imaginary Television," a collection of songs written for TV shows that don't exist!

Well, you know how these things sometimes go. The Pittsburgh gig didn't go down so well....the inevitable discussion about money..... the #1 fan became the ex-#1 fan...... the physician knew where to squeeze....

I must have read it somewhere. I'm sure I bookmarked it.

Graham Parker was unavailable for comment on Norman's wind-up, but was heard muttering something about 'Imaginary Television' while brandishing a mysterious ancient sacred totem:
