Pop hits on 'Crackerjack'

Postby AndyM » Fri Jul 15, 2011 7:32 pm

British forum chums of a certain vintage will recall the BBC children's show 'Crackerjack', a comedy/game show hybrid which featured, each week, a sketch including the cast singing excerpts from current chart hits. These now seem debilitatingly surreal, and (of course) some sick & wonderful people have put some on YouTube.

Although I'm still looking for their version of 'Lay Lady Lay', which involved, in an attempt to make the lyrics more child-palatable, a big brass bed being pushed under a chicken, encouraging it to lay an egg.

Marvellous! That beats Pan's People into second place as far as interpretive literalism goes!

Peter Glaze, eh? Not a talented comedian, not a talented singer, not a talented entertainer and yet he still had a job.

But, don't forget, the originator of the expressive "DOH!!" considerably predating Homer Simpson.

Fantastic. I had completely forgotten (blanked out?) the Crackerjack covers. They should have made LP's and sold them for 49p on station platforms.
