Father & Son

Postby howard male » Tue Jun 08, 2010 11:38 am

Did anyone watch the opening episode of Father & Son last night?

Having seen all four episodes I can’t recommend it highly enough. Yes, it’s pretty clear they are trying to aim for the heights of the Wire (the credit sequence graphics and choice of song give that game away) but they don’t fall too short, given the fact they’ve only got four hour-long episodes to play with.

There’s the usual flawless performance from Sophie Okenedo, plus Ian Hart and the always watchable Stephen Rea. Oh and the lead actor, Dougray Scott, isn't bad either, although I'm not as familiar with his work.

Crime thriller cliché’s are flirted with but then niftily circumvented, and twists are delivered sparingly and don’t seem as clunkily unfeasible as they sometimes do in such dramas. It’s not perfect but M & I watched all four episodes back to back and didn’t find our attention flagging for one moment.
