Not Transylvania but...

When I visited Cluj Napoca earlier in the year I was disappointed to find no obvious way of hearing Roma brass bands. My local connections understood something different about "tradition".

However I am meeting the same group of people in Athens this week ( temperatures in the mid-20's!!!) and can say I have heard at least two Roma bands busking in the Syntagma/Ermonia district - both with CDs for sale.

On the pedestrian bridge between the South Bank and Charing Cross Station a Roma brass band quite often busk. they have a youth playing drums on a plastic crate! Sound pretty good too. I think it's often the case that you will find Gypsy musicians from the East - especially Romania - everywhere but the East.
