With the Western Ghats on one side and the Arabian Sea on the other, Kerala is blessed with unique geographical features and a temperate climate that make it an ideal tourist destination. Culture, history, traditions and heritages, scenery, adventure sports, water sports, breath-taking flora and fauna, Ayurvedic rejuvenation and the best hospitality from the locals are some of the few things that one can expect from Kerala – ‘God’s Own Country’. With tourists from all over the world flowing in to Kerala, one can understand that the beaches, mountains, backwaters, lakes and rivers might only be a few of the reasons why Kerala has secured its strong position in the world map as an international tourist destination. With the recent boom in the number of star Hotels Accommodation standards have been at the highest ever in Kerala and hence appealing to more and more international tourists as well as domestic tourists.
Kerala is also the holder of the title of highest literate state in India, and has had a lot of reasons to shine above the rest of the Indian states.

Tourism is one of the main contributors to the Kerala economy, but agriculture and the fishing industry also plays a major role with nearly half of the state’s population looking up to the agricultural industry for their survival. Traditional manufacturing industries such as the handicraft industry and the coir industry also play a major role in Kerala’s economy. The spice industry is another major contributor to the economy as Kerala is one of the largest suppliers of spices to the entire world.

Kerala enjoys an excellent health system, so much as to gain worldwide recognition. The infant mortality rate is one of the highest in the country, and so is the life expectancy rate. This has given way to a new kind of tourism called ‘Medical Tourism’ bringing in more funds for the economy from international tourists, where foreigners come to Kerala seeking medical treatment. This is due to the fact that the medical procedures here are economically more feasible and/ or less time consuming. In short, Kerala has been growingly creating awareness of its existence throughout the world in more ways than one as you can see.
