Madrid: Veranos de la Villa

Here in Madrid the program for this year's Veranos de la Villa has been announced. Kool and the Gang and Gilberto Gil are back again, as is Cesária Evora, and I'm guessing it won't be the first time for Youssou N'Dour either. George Benson, Seal and James Taylor also feature, and I like the look of the evening of Nina Simone music, especially as it includes Angélique Kidjo, who I first heard played on clapped out cassettes when a few weeks in Indonesia, where she, then at any rate, was a huge success. But this is to mention just a few, and they're not all from foreign parts either: Tomatito is also back. I've heard that the usual venue, the Conde Duque, is closed at the moment so they're happening at the expo centre in the Casa de Campo - I presume still in the open air. It's not nearly so central, and I doubt as picturesque as the Conde Duque of a summer evening, but if you're in Madrid this summer, there is lots going on, nearly every evening of the week. The ticketing and website appear to be much improved.
