Can't post this in advance, or it would give the game away regarding winner of the fRoots Critics poll of Album of the Year

Stay tuned for enjoyable sessions and Radio Ping Pong with Chiwoniso from Zimbabwe

If you don't want to know who wins, look away now.....

The Beeb have ruined the surprise by posting the tracklist for tonight's prog already. Sorry to be a spoilsport! :[

looks like being an enjoyable listen.

It was a very good show. It was nice to hear what Nigel sounds like. I love Diabate's music & Umalali.

there's a lively discussion about the first half of this programme in the thread 'fRoots poll' in the main 'Sound of the World' forum.

So far, no specific comment on Chiwoniso, her music or her selections.

Well yet again I really enjoyed Chi's music (even more so in these more acoustic studio sessions she does to the produced album versions).
Sadly I fell asleep after Tracy Chapman's Fast Car, so can't comment further, but elsewhere Jonathan E. was complementing the Arrested Development track

I did say, in the other thread earlier
Why waste valuable airtime (in discussing etc etc), especially when some wonderful live music was lined up?
And wonderful it was.....

Artists' choics can often be a surprising disappointment, if not shock to our sophisticated taste-buds (David Gilmour? Pink Floyd?). No let down tonight, though I seem to have fallen asleep with Chris.

Just listening now, and it's a delight to hear the Salif Keita track from 'Soro'. Reminds me that I must supplement my vinyl copy with the CD!

Me too, finally. I do think I'm going have to break down and get a computer. Anyways, I'm looking forward to Chiwoniso. A young lady I know studied mbira in Zimbabwe a few years ago (either under Chiwoniso or a 'student' of hers, don't remember. more likely the latter I would assume) and her enthusiasm for Chiwoniso was boundless and quite infectuous.

Yes, Chiwoniso was great - looking forward to seeing her live.

Good fun to hearing Arrested Developement again - I always though they were an extremely significant band, and I feel they've been kind of forgotten. However, I think they had a new album out quite recently - maybe sometime in the last year or two. Did anyone hear that?

I did listen to the whole show live on Friday. Sorry I didn't mention Chiwoniso too. I did enjoy hearing the story behind the music she picked.
