Don’t miss Lopa’s show this week!

Great session from Swiss Cajun rowdies, Mama Rosin (who for some reason make me think of Les Negresses Vertes more than anyone else), and some fine CD choices including Amparo Sanchez (I wasn't mad about the album but Lopa managed to land on the track which has made me think about giving it another listen), Polar Bear, Sooothsayers, and Mulatu Astatke ( preceeded by a nicely understated mention of Charlie.) Another reason to listen is that it gives us back something Present and forward-looking to focus on. I think out of the handful of broadcasters we have left playing this kind of music, Lopa’s taste is closest to Charlie’s, for what it's worth.

Has anyone else listened to the show via Listen Again/iPlayer? I've tried several times over the past couple of days, and it keeps dying at different points within the first half hour or so.

I've been "Listening Again" for years, and have had a few isolated problems, but not this persistent issue, so wondered if others have as well.

I had no problem with the ListenAgain on Saturday morning. But I am unlikely to understand how Howard got from Mama Rosin to Les Negresses Vertes for as long as I live! But these things of sort of accidental memory association can happen in the most peculiar ways. His comment did get me to listen to LNV again, which is something I like to do every so often to remind me of the glory days of world music in the US — a major label deal and tour support! Not sure how excited I am by Mama Rosin although they sounded like very nice and sincere people and how can one be dismissive of a musician who likes his day job of repairing bicycles? That's a balanced person! Perhaps they're a live festival type of band. Perhaps I should just get one of their albums and give 'em a full listen. We'll see. It has got me digging through my Cajun and Zydeco music.

Best news was about the forthcoming Anibal Velasquez y su Conjunto Mambo Loco compilation on Analog Africa. I'm a complete aficionado for almost all Columbian music.

I was intrigued by Amit Chaudhuri track from This Is Not Fusion, although having just previewed it on eMusic am not sure about buying the whole thing. I was especially pleased to hear a full track from Red Earth Dub by Red Earth Collective 'cos I'd read a limp lukewarm review in Songlines, which had put me off — but I'm previewing it now and it sounds like just my cup of tea and I'll download the whole thing.

The rest of the show? A bit of this, a bit of that. I didn't feel like it quite sparkled. Nothing terribly wrong with it though. I think I'm beginning to realise that I generally just want the DJs to shut up and play the music unless they've got something really brilliant to say, which is pretty infrequent. But I don't listen to much radio at the best of times so I'm not much of a typical or desirable listener.

Re-auditioning Amit Chaudhuri, I can't make up my mind as to whether to download or not. Lots of other stuff I want.

I heard him play bits of this last year at Asia House in London and thought it really did not do it for me at all! No doubt better in a studio setting than live...

And it never got downloaded by me. It's in the slipstream now. I suppose if I had a slow month on eMusic I might listen again but I have something like 490 other Saved for Later items, so there's stiff competition.

Another excellent show from Lopa last night. If you've not listened before this would be a good introduction.
