Saw this guy play in a pub last night. Loved him. Tulsa-born and London-based

Lots of his stuff on Spotify. Except for my favourite which i think was called "Primer Gray"

You'll probably like this if you like:
a)Poppy alt-country (sorry its the best I could come up with)
b)Songs with words
c)Pedal Steel
d)The sound of a Telecaster through a Deluxe Reverb (you may not even KNOW that you like this sound, but if you've heard any american guitar-based music of the last half-century you'll recognise it) . When he hit the vibrato pedal and played on the bass strings i was in a private tonal heaven.

Useful points of reference: Nick Lowe. Bill Kirchen. Someone said Marshall Crenshaw although I couldn't possibly comment.

You could tell those old american amps were going to sound great just from the names:

Vibroverb
Tremolux
Vibroluxe
Deluxe Reverb
Reverberocket
Superbreverb
Dual Showman
Bandmaster
Gemini 6
Mercury
Champ
Princeton (maybe)

Then the British came along with their stupid, nerdy numbering systems
AC30, JTM45 etc.etc Where's the fun in that?

Fender lost confidence and started calling their amps things like Twin Reverb (yaaawn), Super Reverb and worst of all Pro Reverb finally ending up with abominations like Hot Rod Deville

And while I'm on teh subject, what sort of idiot would call their amp a Butcher or a Dominator or a Westminster or an Egnater?

I always liked Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias' references to their "Winfield Wall Of Sound".

Saw him again last night with just a pedal steel player and backing vocals, playing to a room of about 10 people above a pub in Stamford Hill. He's warm and funny between songs and clearly has a head full of old music.

I think a few people here would also love him. Pedal steel h8rs should probably not bother.

I know we shouldn't let things like this influence us but he's a really lovely bloke.

Stamford Hill on a Friday night? A lot of guys walking around wearing hats, but likely not country fans (well, not this country, anyway). An audience of 10 constitutes a minyan. Did he only start playing when the tenth man came in?

Would love to see him - I like your recommendations.

Bob sounds good to my ears. Worth further investigation.
