Facebook - advice please

My facebook account has been spammed, I received a message notification from somebody I didn't know. I went in to delete it, but -

the notification red number remained and wouldn't go away.

few of the links to posts eg youtube vids were working anymore.

Couldn't scroll down to 'older posts'

Couldn't post status updates or anything else.

I logged on using my phone and managed to delete the message and the notification. I also changed my password, and sent a report and screenshot to facebook admin. But while I can still read everybody's posts I can't do anything active. Will I just have to deactivate the account, start a new one and start reinviting all my friends again?

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

Try Googling "facebook hacked" and see if there's anything in there that sounds like what you're experiencing; it may be that someone has come up with a solution.

Good luck!

Thanks Rob, I think I've got it sorted now. Hopefully any facebook friends haven't been infected by whatever it was, but there is a deactivate and reactivate process you can use which seems to work ok. At least I've managed to avoid having to start a completely fresh account.
