Listening to what in the first instance sounds like a promising new artist from the rarely featured Guinea-Bissau.

Traditional, acoustic instrumentation (balafon, kora, djembe), combined with some Cheikh Lo style, gentle vocals.

This initial release bodes well for the 'Discovery Series' on Cumbancha.

thanks - listening now to the MySpace tracks - sound great (barring a very occasional keyboard squelch) - a lovely & accessible instrument mix of balafon, kora, accomplished drum and west african guitar. I forsee Charlie spinning this one on the radio.

If you're interested in such things, the physical CD is a good value £6.99 on pre-order at HMV at the moment.

Maybe this should be moved to the 'New Release' section?

(Only applies to us mere mortals who have to shell out for the listening privilege!)

Watching the Youtube clip on Kimi's MySpace page, and I thought I recognised the kora player. It's Braima Galiza aka Ibrahima Galissa of Taffetas (and Guinea Bissau). That explains why the kora is so gorgeous on the album song clips, and Kimi Djabate's voice is something very special too (plus he plays really good balafon and guitar). Heading over to HMV to preorder for £ 6.99 incl postage - bargain, thanks again Andy.
