Loss of service over the past weekend

Postby Rob Hall » Mon Mar 19, 2012 11:16 am

We're back!

Apologies to all who were concerned about the loss of the site, but it was out of our hands. Well, Zee's hands, really, as he's the only one with contact to Mondomix, who host the site for us.

We alerted the hosts to the problem on Thursday. On Friday morning, we got an explanation ('we had a problem with our data center') then a promise that the site would be up within 24 hours. On Saturday Zee reported that the site was still down, and then we were told it was all fixed this morning.

In other news: I asked Zee about changing the front page of the site, and he hopes to get to this in the coming weeks.

The reason I am saying all of this 'on Zee's behalf', is that I know he has a lot on his plate; I hope that I haven't mis-represented the situation in this post.

Thanks, Rob, to yourself and to Zee (and to fRoots for the messaging service).

...and now I know we're really back to normal: I've just zapped the first spammer of the day.

Thanks indeed

Charlie passed away two years ago on Saturday.

Somehow it wasn't a surprise to find the site down on that day too.

Thank goodness! I was worried that we had lost all our archives. All those hissy fits and arguments, all those reproduced sleeve notes, all those terrible jokes - I am so glad it's all OK.

Thank you Rob and Zee.

Thanks very much, guys. I really appreciate all of Zee and Rob's work and dedication.

Rob - what's your average daily spamkill rate looking like? I miss your Terminator comments on the ones that temporarily get through (not that I've seen Terminator, of course of course).

We changed the setup so that they sit in a waiting room before they can post, so I clean out the waiting room during the day. It's generally about 6-12 per day, but sometimes more.

Very glad to see it's back.

I don't get to check in every day, but when I stopped by a couple of times recently and it was down, I feared the worst. I don't post much here, but nevertheless very much appreciate everyone else's activity and contributions.

Thanks for keeping it going.

Thank you, Rob. I do look at SoTW every day whether I post or not and its absence was noticeable. By the way, I had difficulties accessing the forum for a few days prior to its being down. I don't know if that was a coincidence or not.
