Arbor Supreme

Killyglen

Surface To Air*

* lucky betting code handed down by my Dad -the horses name has an 'R' as it's third letter. - 'lucky' and 'code' as in totally irrational random nonesense but worth a couple a quid each way in a big race. Please don't try this at home.
Although it served me well (won £250) when I backed Nortons Coin who as a rank outsider beat Desert Orchid in the Gold Cup back in 1990. But that's another story...one I'm still writing.

Spookily enough, another online pal elsewhere recommended the third-letter-R trick. This cannot be a coincidence!!! But I'm too lazy to go out to the bookie's again and if I started gambling online I'd be broke by Easter.

That is spooky. I either never asked my Dad why the third letter 'R' ?(he died in 1989 - his last bet, literally on his death bed, was Norton's Coin at Cheltenham the year before it was entered in the Gold Cup. It won but he died the morning of the race. You might see now why I had to back it a year later and why I feel it's worthy of a short story - you may recall he was the same chap who bought the Gerry Rafferty LP in Rumbelows)
Or, if I did ask him why I've forgotten the reason. I've assumed it was because he was called Bernard and being a Gary I've continued it on with the same amount of success - minimal.

Anyway, good luck Mr M and I agree with you the occasional walk to the bookies - in my case very occasionally - is a blessing in disguise compared with the convenient but slippery road to poverty that online betting holds in store.

Ah well, Gary, we'll both have to try again next year! Lovely story about your Dad, btw.

Next year! We've got the Derby coming up.

If you want a couple of thousand words so far of the 'Third Letter Story' ( part of my M.A. at the time) I'll happily try and send it as an attachment but although I've received a PM I don't know how to send one to people. And also you might not want PMs either and as I'm cautious to all that I wouldn't be offended at all.

Quiz: What's only fresh between the Grand National and the Derby?

I only really like national hunt racing to be honest, though I did back a 50-1 Derby winner back in the 80s.

I'd like to read the story. PM-ing just involves hitting the little PM button under my details on the right hand side of my posts.

As for the question/joke, you'll have to enlighten me!

Answer: Asparagus.

I'll try the PM way tomorrow - glued to the Masters coverage - a walk spoiled or enhanced?
Cheers.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think you can attach things to PMs. Best if Andy gives you his email address and you send it to him via that route.

Ban horse racing. Jockeys should be made to run round the course with horses on their backs not the other way round, then they should shoot the fuckers.

I'd have more openness to 'animal rights' views if they sometimes didn't envisage the killing of human beings with such drooling relish.

Drooling relish happens to be very tasty.
