I am watching the game in street bars in Romania with Romanians, Germans, Greeks, Finns and Swedes. An certain independent perspective.

We seem to be unanimous in the likelyhood of an Argentinian victory - not in the least that they have Man City goal ace Carols Tevez and some of the population speak Welsh ( Gotan Project on th muzak of the bar).

I think what you're trying to say in proper footy speak is "You're not singing anymore"

The England players must have been reading the ' nothing to do with football thread'

He would surely have enjoyed the football, but has anyone else noticed that Charlie is actually playing and is one of the players of the tournament? Yes he is none other than Diego Forlan, Uruguay's playmaker. Maybe someone who knows how can post up the 2 mirror portraits

Germany appear unstoppable, aye? Great game on Saturday - even tho the score suggests a thrashing the Argies were trying hard and it was a much more exciting match than the Germany-England game. Interesting to see that a team who play as a team rather than a disparate collection of superstars make for easily the best outfit in this WC. Obvious contenders for the cup but having said that maybe the cruel Dutch will find a way to win or the Spaniards will finally find their mojo. It also appears that Johnny Marr is now the German coach - after all those post-Smiths years of doing nothing of worth he finally has found something he can succeed in. Bad luck for Ghana but when their player failed to put home a simple penalty in the last minute of extra time you knew their time was up.

Good to see Rafa champ again at Wimbledon. Great to see Federer - the arrogant Swiss twat - behaving as such a bad loser after getting knocked out.

A really good sporting weekend!

Federer's no arrogant twat. Speak for yourself! He's a supreme champion who's always been a terrific example of how to be gracious in both victory or occasional defeat. One of the most stylish players ever. What's changing now is he's suddenly vulnerable, he can see his demise in the distance, for the first time. You can only imagine how it must feel for a true champion, the best player in history, to be tapped on the shoulder and have the words 'you'll soon be history' whispered in your ear for the very first time. I reckon that's what caused his untypically ungracious response to defeat last week. There aren't many giants in sport who manage to be so polite, popular among his peers and universally acclaimed. Exceptional verging on unique I'd say
