A tale of two ponytails

Roberto Baggio was known as "the divine ponytail" because he could play a bit. Last night's lamentable display by Liverpool in the Champions League against a far from inspired Olympique Lyonnais side reminded me that Signor Baggio awaits a natural successor. Andriy Voronin does not quite fit the bill just yet. He is the unhappy person on the right below.

Another mere mortal in the ponytail league is Voronin's colleague Sotiris Kyriakos despite the fact that both his names hint at the divine- the saviour and the Lord combined.

lamentable display by Liverpool

I wouldn't go that far. They generally outplayed Lyon who hardly had a shot on target all game. In the old days Liverpool were the masters at shutting up shop after scoring. To get sloppy, lose concentration, whatever, and allow Lyon through for the goal was unforgiveable.

I'm not keen on either of the current pony-tails, particularly Voronin who it seems is one of those players who promises a lot but rarely delivers. I just wish they could find somebody with a bit of consistency, whatever the hairdo.

Hopefully Aquilani will be fit soon and give us a bit of inspiration despite the mullet.
