Pete Cassell, the “King of the Hillbillies” aka "The Blind Minstrel" born 100 years ago today, 27th August, 1917 (Cobb County, Georgia) [died 29th July, 1954]

Known more for his radio work rather than his records, but these are two from his first recording session (1941) -

‘Why don’t you come back to me’ (Gene Autry song) with some nice yodelling

his version of St. Louis Blues

and I can’t resist one with the title ‘I’m waiting for ships that never come in’ (1947) - much recorded song that dates back to the 1920s; my favourite version from those I’ve heard ... p?id=11549 ... 0001538875 ... instrel%27
