Alberta Adams (Born 26th July, 1917)

Alberta Adams, Detroit’s Queen of the Blues, born Roberta Louise Osborn (or Osborne) one hundred years ago today - 26th July, 1917 in Indianapolis [died aged 97 on Christmas Day in 2014)

She toured with amongst others Duke Ellington, Louis Jordan, Lionel Hampton, and T-Bone Walker. One of the earliest female blues singers to record for Chess - 1953 single ‘Messin’ Around with the Blues’ accompanied by Red Saunders & band (with Earl Washington - piano)

Returned to performing in the 1990s and recorded several albums. Here in 2010 a week after her 93rd birthday, with the Don Was Detroit All Star Revue - ‘Detroit is my Home’
